Types of driving I do (more details in labelled sections below):
_ Designated Driver
_ Medical Escort Driver
_ Executive / Business / Personal Driver
_ Vehicle Transporter
_ Relocation / Moving Driver (rental trucks)
I’m looking to supplement my regular income by providing driving services, as I have done for
many decades, based most of that time in the VA/DC/MD area. I’m originally from the Albany
Capital Area (Schenectady), and still remember and know my way around it, despite years away
at college (Oneonta) and grad school (DC). I’ve recently moved back here for family reasons,
and while looking to establish my consulting business in this area, I need to generate side income.
I'm a legally licensed, safe and reliable driver (perfectly clean record - no violations, no points,
no faulted accidents (not even in fault states), in over 50 years of driving experience - locally,
regionally, cross-country and even coast-to-coast). I’m guesstimating that I have well over a
million miles driven, safely and legally.
Please take the time to read whichever labelled sections below might apply to you (or to a family member, relative, friend, co-worker, neighbor, or someone else you know), and save this posting (download to Word or PDF, or even print it out). Even if it’s not immediately relevant, it could become so in the future.

DESIGNATED DRIVER:
Okay, it’s the holiday party season coming up, which means a lot of drinking (in volumes you may not be used to), as well as the usual alcohol-related events that happen year-round (nights out on the town, to bars, restaurants and nightclubs; sporting events (pro and college); concerts and music festivals, brewery, winery or distillery visits; bachelor and bachelorette parties; weddings, funerals, etc.).
Additionally, while recreational marijuana may now be legal in New York and some adjoining states, smoking weed and driving is never a good idea.
You may feel fine, but given the questionably low BAC levels for DWI and DUI charges, the even more questionable ways of measuring chargeable weed influence on your driving, the seasonal upsurge in law enforcement checkpoints, and the possibility of an accident (even one that another driver causes – but draws the cops there), do you want to take a chance?
You’d be looking at endless thousands in legal fees, court fines, possible jail time (even for a first-timer, depending on which judge or town justice hears your case), a huge increase in your insurance premiums, maybe an adverse hit to your credit rating, and probably damage to your job and career.
In the case of any accident that you cause, your insurer might cover whatever damages exceed the no-fault limit, but if, depending on the severity of the injuries, those damages are so great that they exceed your coverage limits, you could be personally liable for the rest.
So be smart about preparing in advance to party hardy, without having to worry about any of the serious repercussions just mentioned. Hire me in advance as your designated driver (using your vehicle) for a meager $17-20 per hour, with a minimum of 4-6 hours, depending on my distance to get to you. The possible total for my work would pale in comparison to the adverse consequences if you decide to drive on your own, and is a lot less than what you’d be charged by anyone using their own vehicle.
Surely the other people in your group wouldn’t mind contributing to your costs, because even if they aren’t worried about getting fined, etc., they should worry about injuries if you can’t drive them home safely. Just ask them why it’s fair that they get to drink all they want, and have the most fun, and you can’t.
Now, you might ask why we’d be using your vehicle. Simply put, I never liked having to clean mine up after one or more passengers over-drank and barfed all over, or decided they couldn’t control their hormones and libido until they got home. You’re free to do whatever you want in your own backseat. I can always leave and get a cup of coffee if you don’t want an audience.
Additionally, those drivers who use their own vehicles may not have the required state or local livery license and registration for doing so, and may not have the required enhanced auto policy to do so. A typical auto policy excludes all coverage for the driver (and all passengers) in any “For Hire” arrangement. Of course, if I drive you in your own vehicle, your policy will cover everybody.
That “For Hire” exclusion of coverage applies in all situations, including the medical escort, executive, business or personal driving arrangements you might even think of making with other drivers. but with me driving your vehicle, you're covered..
In passing, I'll note this other related driving service I provide. I have driven people to pro and college football games (they load their vehicle with all the tailgate necessities), as well as other sporting events. I can drive your group, in your vehicle, to any of the remaining pro and college football games, as well as pro and college basketball and hockey games, anywhere in the northeast and mid-Atlantic regions and beyond. I can even do cross-country RV driving if you want to get a group together for an extended arena or stadium tour.

MEDICAL ESCORT DRIVER:
Whether you’re having major or minor surgery, if anesthesia is involved, your medical provider will require you to have a driver show up with you at your appointment, and perhaps stay at the medical facility the whole time, but definitely be there when the procedure is done, in order to get you home safely. Similarly, if you’re appointment with a medical provider (for example, an ophthalmologist) may involve eye drops or some immediate dispensing of certain medications, you may need a driver there. Many medical providers that may not require it will certainly recommend it. Sometimes the condition for which you are receiving treatment (e.g., broken arm, foot, leg, etc., or general dizziness, etc.) makes it dangerous, or at least very difficult for you to drive yourself.
After a medical appointment, one of the usual stops is at a pharmacy to pick up medications, and possibly other stores for necessities. I’m happy to drive you (using your car, for reasons previously stated) to and from your appointment, and for all errands in between. Again, $17-20 per hour, and a minimum of a few hours, depending on my distance to you.

EXECUTIVE / BUSINESS / PERSONAL DRIVER:
Whether you need a personal driver due to physical injuries or impairments, or because your license is suspended or revoked, I can drive you around town (or anywhere you need to go) in your vehicle (or reasons stated above). If you are an executive, or otherwise use your vehicle for business, you can also use my services, driving you in your vehicle for a full day of meetings all around the area, or in distant locations. Rather than have to deal with the usual headaches of driving, you can relax, read, watch a video, prep for your meetings, or whatever you’d like to do, while I deal with the idiots on the road. Best yet, if one or more of your meetings are in places where parking is a PITA, I can take you right to the front entrance to the building, saving you the possibly long walk (and the drenching from the rain, or the slip and fall on snowy or icy pavement) and get you to your meeting(s) on time, safely, dry and with all appendages intact.
One added reason for using your vehicle. You can have it loaded with your sample cases, briefcases, legal files and trial exhibits, building plans, or whatever you need for your meeting or court appearance. Again, in your vehicle, for reasons previously stated, $17-20 per hour, and a 4-6 hour minimum, all depending on my distance to you.

VEHICLE TRANSPORTER
There are so many reasons to never use one of those commercial carriers when you need to get your vehicle transported long distance, even coast-to-coast, and most of them are set out on carrier websites (where they claim that their competitors engage in those kinds of practices but they supposedly don’t). I can send you all those details if you request them, but I’ll summarize them here: serious under-quoting of actual costs, serious under-quoting of delivery times, too many delays as the vehicle gets dropped off for days at remote locations awaiting the next trucker to come along and move the vehicle semi-westward, federal restrictions (300 miles per day) on each trucker involved, totally indirect and zig-zagging routes taken, etc. I can send you more details if you do request.
In total contrast, I get into the vehicle and drive it in as direct a route as possible, usually 600-700 or more miles each day, getting it actually delivered in a few days (if coast-to-coast, no more than 4-6 days), stopping overnight, of course, for my safety and the protection of the vehicle. As an added bonus to having me drive it, those extended highway speed distances help clean out the carbons and gunk that accumulated from months or years of daily local driving.
Again, $17-20 per hour, for all time on the road, excluding the overnight stops, plus gas and tolls and related expenses.
Let me know the year, make, model, power source (gas, electric or hybrid), fuel type (if applicable), of the vehicle, the destination to which you need it delivered, the date you need it there, its general condition and road-worthiness, its general legality (how it’s titled, and that it has current inspection sticker, current registration, and current insurance), and anything else I need to know. Please make sure that it is as safe for me as you would want it for yourself if you were driving it.

RELOCATION /MOVING DRIVER:
If you are relocating (locally, regionally or cross-country), you may not need one of the big moving companies, or there may be some things you don’t want to send with them. Or you may be looking at a do-it-yourself move, but are hesitant about driving a rental truck. I’ve driven several of those (up to 24 feet), with or without a vehicle-in-tow, and have driven RVs (up to 30 feet). That 30 footer, driven from DC to Los Angeles and on up to Santa Barbara) carried my customer, her many rescue cats, and her overflow belongings that she did not want to entrust to the big moving company she used.
So keep me in mind if you or anyone you might know could have a need for my overall planning, packing, loading, driving and unloading / move-in services.
