Thank you to all the people I have met last month. I have really come in contact with some great students !!
Hi, I have 30 years of experience playing guitar. I started my life out as a proficient drummer and became immersed in guitar for the last 30+ years. All throughout high school, college and most of my adult life I have been in various bands from cover bands that played out every weekend to "sessions". I have taken many lessons earlier in my life and quite frankly always seem to have quit because of the same reasons. #1. Lessons are really expensive. Right now the going rate at the local vintage shop in town is $25.00 / 1/2 hr. This is tough because it is really hard to get set up with new concepts only to find out after your warmed up that the 30 minute lesson is over !!! #2. During that 30 minute expensive lesson the teacher seems to be writing things down in a book for 10 minutes out of the 30 minutes. #3. Many teachers go big into scales and music theory so that people can learn the "right" way. I have this knowledge myself, but it needs to be sprinkled in as someone is learning so that they feel inspired that they are making music !!! Of course I have seen the exact opposite too. Teachers that tell students to find songs that they like and they just learn those songs. Very short sighted and not how to learn music. #4. Here is the biggest one of all. Most people I have played with that are actually quite good do a horrible job teaching how to be musical. This involves how to actually play musically(chord structures and lead playing in the right style) with a drummer and a bass player. Ultimately a fantastic pro does NOT make them a good teacher. I have helped many people before and all of them say "Wow, why hasn't anyone approached learning this way !!" I am not a "certified" teacher or a music grad. My father was a professional musician and I have a strong sense of what is good. My ideal student would be someone who has played a bit and wants the foundation and next few levels of know more complex chord positions and playing melodic leads. Most of this would center around American blues rock such as the style of the Rolling Stones, The Who, Cream and the list goes on. I am only looking to be involved with mature individuals. My rate is $30.00 for 90 minutes !! This would be at my house. We can discuss rates for me coming to you. The first lesson would be a much longer since I would want to know more about you. E-mail your phone number to discuss starting!! Thanks.
