Once upon a time, "indie" meant " independent or not on a major label. Now it is just another marketing "brand" used by major labels to sell their watered-down garbage to people with indiscriminate taste. "Alternate" once meant "an alternative to what was being played on main-stream radio" (at least back when I was hanging out with college station DJs). Now it is just another marketing "brand" used by major labels to sell their watered-down garbage to people with indiscriminate taste.

Words no longer have set definitions. They simply mean whatever the user wants them to mean. Talk about a communication breakdown.
