Unlike the standard Squier models, the VM series specifically modified key areas like the pickups, neck profile, and hardware to provide a higher-end feel and sound at an accessible price.
Key Modifications in the Series
Pickups: Most models in this series were originally equipped with Duncan Designed JB101 single-coil pickups, which provided a more articulate and punchy tone than standard stock Squier pickups.
Slim "Fast-Action" Neck: The series features a slim "C"-shaped maple neck with a modern 9.5" fingerboard radius. This is a modification from true vintage specs (which often had a rounder 7.25" radius) to allow for easier playability and lower action.
Vintage Aesthetics: The "Modified" aspect also includes high-end cosmetic touches usually reserved for more expensive Fender models, such as black block inlays and neck binding on the '70s-style models.
Modern Bridge: While it retains a vintage look, the standard 4-saddle bridge is designed for better stability and easier intonation adjustments compared to entry-level hardware.
