Royal Enfield’s Interceptor was a classic 1960s bike with a dynamically balanced crankshaft that made for an amazingly smooth ride. The Interceptor is back, now sporting a 650cc parallel twin engine but with the retro styling that recalls those glory days of biking. It’s the essence of a British roadster with a dash of California Desert Racer, blending timeless style and contemporary performance. The crankshaft has a 270-degree throw, with a gear-driven balance shaft ahead of the crank. The slipper clutch is co-axial with the crankshaft, driving a six-speed gearbox and chain final drive. The chassis is a tubular twin-downtube cradle frame. Forks are standard telescopics, and rear suspension is via twin shocks. The braced handlebars allow a sit-up-and-beg riding position, and a tubular grab-rail is fitted for the pillion passenger. “Motorcycle News” gave it a thumbs up, writing, “The engine is lively without being intimidating, the handling is fun without being patronising and the finish is good without breaking the bank.”
