“THE SOUTH MALL” (it's common unofficial name) construction began in 1965
Many local neighborhoods were destroyed & communities displayed. Work on The Nelson A. Rockefeller Empire State Plaza (Official name- but later just "The Empire State Plaza) was completed in 1976 when the architectural marvel "The EGG” was finished
June 27th, 1982, Queen Beatrix and Husband returned to Albany and were driven to the Plaza in Franklin Roosevelt’s 1932 Packard Phaeton Convertible accompanied by then Governor Carey, some other notables and special security forces
She was "Mighty" Impressed at the changes!!!

In addition to these photos- I am also including the a July 1969 Booklet with the plans for the Plaza as well as a 1983 Albany Eagle (now defunct newspaper) Article regarding Albany’s Dutch Heritage (and a mention of the Queen’s Return Visit the previous year)
