Beautifully made Marlin Spike ca. late 1800's +- Used at rope works and in and around sailing ships to repair sails, opening old knots, etc. Made to fit comfortably in your hand and is perfectly balanced. This was a tool sailors always carried in a sheath attached to their belt. It was also used as a defensive weapon when needed.
Bought 40 + years ago in an antique shop in Hudson, N.Y. Hudson was an early whaling port where several homes of noted whaling captains may still be seen on Warren St.
