Compeer = Companion + Peer. You can be a Compeer for someone living with a mental health condition! There are many different ways you can help. In our “1 to 1 Match Program,” our volunteers act as mentors and social friends to adults and children who are living with mental, emotional, or behavorial disorders. Volunteers interview and choose a “consumer” of their choice and spend only 4 hours a month meeting them out for coffee, going shopping, taking a drive, viewing a museum, attending any Compeer event, and more! Compeer also holds monthly “Skillbuilders” where a volunteer shares their talent, skill, or hobby with a group of consumers and other volunteers. You can lead a Skillbuilder! Examples of Skillbuilders have included antique coin collecting, caving, growing indoor houseplants, cooking fall treats, creative expression through arts and crafts, and more! Compeer, in addition, holds monthly social activities such as movie nights, holiday parties, bbq’s, the list keeps going!
