I am Gowan, High Commander of Tir na nOg, a unit of Dagorhir Battle Games based in Glens Falls, New York, and we are currently recruiting new members! Dagorhir is a full-contact medieval combat sport inspired by Dark Ages Europe and Lord of the Rings. Our organization has existed since the mid-1970's and now has over 5000 members nation-wide! Attendance at Ragnarok (our biggest national event) was upward of 3000 people!
Dagorhir uses padded weapons to simulate, similar in spirit to paintball, Medieval Warfare. While fantasy-type personas are allowed (orks and elves and such) there is no magic, and very few rules to bog down the fast-paced flow of the game. Dagorhir is more a sport than a LARP (live action role-play) and focuses almost exclusively on fast-paced, full-contact combat. There are no hit-points, no items or treasure or silly numbers to remember. You get hit, you're dead... just like if it was a real sword. There are no classes, no levels, no magic... save that for D&D. Here, the battles are REAL.
We welcome people of all ages, and physical ability. Don't think you need to be a gym-class hero in order to enjoy Dagorhir, EVERYBODY is welcome! Whether or not you participate in combat is entirely optional; many people find it enjoyable just to dress up and have fun socializing with good, friendly people who share a similar passion for all things Medieval.
