A glimpse at Korea:
Korea is a unique mix of sophisticated commercial centers and impressive, traditional attractions. A history and culture that goes back nearly 5,000 years coexists side by side with Louis Vuitton and Starbucks. An eclectic mix of mountains and rivers, majestic palaces, and ultramodern skyscrapers highlight the country's unique horizon.

Also known as the "most wired" country in the world, Korea is famous for its Internet connectivity and the leadership role it plays in the IT industry. As the 10th largest economy in the world, anyone can find just about anything in Korea. For example, English books and movies are readily available along with a variety of Western foods from take-outs to family restaurants.

For the adventurer, Korea's proximity to other Asian countries makes it an excellent hub for travel. Trips to Thailand, China, and Japan are the most common. Traveling within Korea is made easy by the clean, modern, and inexpensive public transportation system.

Why China?
The chance to experience 5,000 years of history while developing your career and skills in “The Middle Kingdom”, as the Chinese call their country, is an opportunity of a lifetime. You can explore one of the world’s most ancient civilizations and engage in the local culture as a welcomed insider (and get paid to do it). China has a thousand faces; from the Great Wall and serene deserts to urban centres bustling with bullet trains.

The most recent host of the summer Olympics, Beijing has sprouted new athletic facilities, hotels and restaurants that rival any in the world. An adventure awaits you down every city street and across the dynamic terrain that has something for every outdoor enthusiast. The Chinese are an amazing friendly people, who will no doubt welcome you with open arms.

Director: Teen Summer Program (Brunswick-Niskayuna)

TSL Adventures LLC, an exclusive year round school-age childcare provider, is hoping to set up appointments to meet with qualified individuals who might be interested in leading a summer program for kids 13-15 y/o (approximately) to run parallel with our 5-12 year old program during the summer of 2010. Our interest is in expanding our programs to meet the needs of those families who have children too old for our younger program, but perhaps too young to be fully independent. We are searching for someone who has experience working effectively with this age group and would have strong ideas about how to structure a program that would be motivating and of interest to this special age group. Since this project design is in early development, we are flexible about how it might be structured. We're soliciting ideas from people who have a strong working knowledge of kids this age and possible programs that might be successful. TSL Adventures currently operates two summer sites for 5-12 year old children. We envision our program for the 13-15 year old children would run at the same sites in separate areas, and be geared at helping the older children become more independent. One example might be a training course where they can learn skills to work with younger children. The ideas are limitless.

If you are interested in this full time summer leadership position with our organization please submit your resume and we'll contact you to meet. We are starting this process early so as to have the rest of the school year to get things moving. The hourly rate for this position would likely be in the range of $10-$15 an hour, but is not yet determined. Depending on the number of kids we attract to this program, the successful candidate would also be supervising other staff employed by TSL Adventures to work in this new program.

You may visit us at www.tsladventures.net to find out what we are currently doing and then perhaps have a better idea of where we want to go with this new program component.
Operations Fellow (2009-2010)
Brooklyn, NY
Newark, NJ
Troy, NY
To make more elementary, middle, and high schools, Uncommon Schools needs future leaders to commit
themselves to the most urgent and exciting work of our time. It takes not only instructional leaders, but
Directors of Operations who can build and manage organizational culture, who put excellence ahead of easy,
and who project urgency about closing the achievement gap. It takes individuals who are fearless about
making decisions and conducting difficult conversations and who can also build a highly collaborative team
and shape a vibrant culture. These individuals cultivate learning communities that are simultaneously
academically rigorous and joyful. Self-reflective and humble, they are open to feedback and committed to
continuously improving.
Uncommon Schools is offering a one-year fellowship to prepare to open a school the following year as an
Operations Leader. After the fellowship, the Operations Leader will assume all the responsibilities of the
Operations job description, as outlined below after the fellowship details.
Reports to: Managing Director of an Uncommon Schools network
GENERAL SUMMARY: The Fellowship provides a robust development process to prepare leaders to
oversee the ongoing operations at a school in conjunction with the Principal and Uncommon Home Office.
The Fellow (i.e., the eventual Operations Leader) will work very closely with Uncommon’s Director of
Operations and Director of Leadership Development. The Operations Fellow is a full-time employee, hired,
supported, and evaluated by the Managing Director. The Operations Fellow must have a B.A. and ideally has
an M.P.P., M.B.A., or J.D.
Prepare for success.
The Fellowship year is based on a foundation of six core elements that are aligned to the competencies of
Uncommon leaders. Each element is designed to build Fellows’ capacity towards becoming effective
operational school leaders. These include the following:
• Evaluation and Feedback
• Fellowship Deliverables and Immersion
• Operations Leadership Meetings
• Professional Development
• Reading and Discussion Groups
• School Startup Preparation
• School Visits
Evaluation and Feedback
Throughout the fellowship year, Fellows will receive coaching and feedback from their Managing Directors in
addition to the school leaders they are working closely with during their fellowships. Each Fellow will have an
Individual Development Plan that identifies the specific areas of development around which their fellowship
will be customized.
Fellowship Deliverables and School Guidelines
During the fall of their fellowship year, Fellows will be housed and immersed in an Uncommon School to
observe and learn in the environment of a successful school. While in this residency, the Fellow will be
involved in operations work at the school, Uncommon-wide Operations projects, and observations and
analysis of Operational systems. In addition, Fellows will be responsible for completing a variety of predetermined
deliverables that are designed to provide active learning that creates an input or experience to
shape the development of their leadership and schools.
Operations Leadership Meetings
Fellows will join the current Operations leaders for periodic meetings to share and tackle current Operational
challenges across Uncommon schools and to build their support network of current leaders.
Professional Development
Starting in the summer, Fellows will engage in professional development focusing on three main domains:
Cultural Leadership, Leadership and Management, and Operational Leadership. Each professional
development session will be lead by our experienced group of Managing Directors, current leaders and a
